Chris Jewell is a qualified piano tuner and an accomplished folk musician who plays fiddle, melodeon, accordian and guitar as well as being an excellent barn dance caller. He appears with: Sheer Hopody, Bloatertown, 3 Sticks, M4trix and the Folk Camps Society. He has a separate ceilidh and barn dance website.

Chris has recorded music for many years and has an extensive discography.

He trained as a piano tuner at Newark & Sherwood College between 1999 and 2002. This college is one of only two piano tuning training establishments in England.

On completion of his training Chris had acquired four distinctions - including one for tuning - and one credit, plus his tuning diploma.

Chris undertook a three year full-time course with study equally divided in time between learning the art of tuning and repairs and restoration. In Year 2 the students restored an upright piano, and in year 3 a grand piano.

The college contains about 20 separate piano tuning booths with three or four pianos in each of them. The students have a chance to tune them all! One day they will be tuned up in pitch, the next day they will be tuned down. This ensures that the students experience all types of pianos, for each piano is different and has its own unique characteristics.

Chris now offers professional piano tuning anywhere in the North Devon area including Bideford, Barnstaple, Great Torrington and Holsworthy.

Chris is also sometimes able to offer piano tuning in Braunfels, Germany.
